Danny’s Place

Life for a young person with weight problems can be much more of a difficult than it should be. Rather than having to struggle with obesity, related health issues and even bullying resulting from their obesity, the team at Danny’s Place want to see young people and their families given opportunities to learn and grow into the healthiest versions of themselves.

The dedicated team at Danny’s Place aims to facilitate long-term positive changes in health outcomes for young people aged 10-18 who are currently overweight, through individualised and holistic approaches like our Be Your Best (BYB) Program.

Childhood Obesity

Obesity occurs when a person’s body carries excess fat, increasing their risk of developing other serious medical conditions. In adulthood, the World Health Organisation defines anyone with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 or more to be obese – while adults with a BMI of 25 or more is considered overweight.

Obesity and overweight ranges are a little harder to identify in children and adolescents, but they can still cause significant issues. As well as physical health risks, the psychological effects of obesity – and not to mention related bullying and social stigma – can be particularly difficult for minors. There is also evidence that children who are obese are 70% more likely to be obese as adults without support.

Danny’s Place aims to support young people with weight issues, as well as their families, to increase their long-term health and overall well-being.

Be Your Best Program

The team at Danny’s Place is committed to empowering young people and their families to make lasting positive changes to become healthier, happier and more confident.

Be Your Best is an individual complete 6-month medical, nutritional and lifestyle program for 10-18 year olds with significant obesity-related problems.

Danny’s Place works to understand the specific circumstances requiring change in order for young people and their families succeed at long-term improvement. Throughout the BYB Program, your team offers direction, safety, support and (only where beneficial) surgical options.

Within a holistic treatment, there is an increasing body of evidence supporting the role minimally invasive and very safe procedures to manage obesity even in teenagers. Your BYB team can offer access to surgical options based on internationally accepted guidelines if, after a complete evaluation, we believe it will be helpful.

Be Your Best is a medical service, not just another weight loss service, and is best accessed via a referral from your doctor or specialist.
